Tasks:

To act as a business mentor on a one-to-one basis to people who have recently become self-employed. A mentor is expected to listen, provide information and identify obstacles to business growth and to suggest possible solutions to develop business progression.
Provide relevant up to date information on business product development and/or help in making an application to secure business funding. The mentor should encourage individuals to
take appropriate action beneficial to the business and guide them in their decision making process.

 

Skills/ Qualities Needed:

Relevant qualifications are desirable. However, experience can be a good substitute where a formal qualification does not exist. A mentor must demonstrate competency in his/her chosen area of expertise.
Some awareness of the issues experienced by the unemployed is expected. Mentors should have good interpersonal and motivational skills, demonstrate patience and empathy towards prospective client.

To help run the gardening group with the occupational therapist or one of the nurses, getting the group members to do the little jobs…everyone does a bit…to know how to garden and plan the jobs involved. And then to link with occupational Therapist and Nurse as to how they felt the group members got on.

To be able to delegate the tasks to the group members and encourage involvement.
