Mentor – Big Brother Big Sister


Tasks:
The Volunteer will meet with the young person each week for 1-2 hours. A staff member will work closely with the volunteer to match a Big Brother with Little Brothers and Big Sisters with Little Sisters based on shared hobbies/interests/personality traits. Together the volunteer and young person decide what they’d like to do.

Skills/Qualities Needed:
We look for volunteers who can act as positive role models for young people, sharing with them their own skills and life experience. It’s great fun, you’ll do things you haven’t done in years! It is an opportunity to develop a friendship with a young person, share common interests and try new things.

Training and Support Provided: Yes

Time Required: 1-2 hours per week for a minimum of 1 year.

Number of Volunteers Needed: As many as possible

Location of Volunteering:
Site based mentoring in the GAF Youth Café, public place where volunteer and young person wish to meet.

Extra Information:
Big Brother Big Sister is a mentoring programme, which matches an adult volunteer from the community with a young person aged between 10 -18 years, who need a bit of extra support. Volunteers are asked to spend a couple of hours a week with their little brother/sister. The initial commitment is for one year.


Becoming a Big Brother or Big Sister is a wonderful way opportunity to change a young person’s life in a simple, yet powerful way.
