Youth Worker Assistant - The Gaf Youth Café

Tasks:

Volunteers generally work alongside the staff in the café area .
You can also get involved with groups and workshops.
Volunteers have facilitated and participated in Grinds, Guitar Classes, Art group, Dance Group, Fun World Cup, Children’s Day and the Junior Cert Disco. So if you have a particular skill or hobby you would like to share with young people let us know. Volunteers are central to the successful running of the Gaf and are very much appreciated by us.

 

Skills/ Qualities Needed:

You don’t need any formal qualifications or experience to become a volunteer in the Gaf however we do require that volunteers are
• Over 21 years of age
• Friendly and approachable
• Enjoy the company of young people and respect them
• Good role models-are reliable and responsible
• Can commit to one shift a week for a minimum period of one year
• Complete the relevant application, Garda vetting and induction procedures

 

Training and Support Provided: Yes

 

Time Required: Minimum of 2 hours per week. Commitment of 1 year required.

 

Number of Volunteers Needed: 5

 

Location of Volunteering: The Gaf Youth Cafe, 14 Francis Street, Galway.

 

Minimum Age Requirement: 21

 

Screening: Garda Vetting; Informal Interviews

 

Extra Information: The Gaf is a support service for Young People (14-21yrs). It offers young people a safe place to meet, join groups or access support.
