Gardening Facilitator - Waterview House Mental Health Day Centre

Tasks:

To help run the gardening group with the occupational therapist or one of the nurses, getting the group members to do the little jobs…everyone does a bit…to know how to garden and plan the jobs involved. And then to link with occupational Therapist and Nurse as to how they felt the group members got on.
Main tasks for the role include:
To be able to delegate the tasks to the group members and encourage involvement.
To plan the task to be carried out in the garden.

 

Skills/ Qualities Needed:

To have a good working knowledge of gardening
To be able to chat easily with the group members and encourage socialization.
To prioritize the needs of the group members and work to their ability.

 

Training and Support Provided: Yes

 

Time Required:

2 – 3 hours. On a Wednesday morning at present, but this could be changed. Ongoing commitment required.

 

Number of Volunteers Needed: 1

 

Location of Volunteering: Loughrea, Co. Galway

 

Minimum Age Requirement: None given

 

Screening: Garda Vetting; Informal Interviews

 

Extra Information:

We need a volunteer with an interest in gardening and who has skills to delegate tasks to others in the group to encourage a sense of involvement at the different levels of the service user, and who can chat with ease and draw the chat out of the group and just make the session enjoyable and a bit of fun.
Garda Clearance is necessary.
