Business Mentor - Galway City Partnership

Tasks:

To act as a business mentor on a one-to-one basis to people who have recently become self-employed. A mentor is expected to listen, provide information and identify obstacles to business growth and to suggest possible solutions to develop business progression.
Provide relevant up to date information on business product development and/or help in making an application to secure business funding. The mentor should encourage individuals to
take appropriate action beneficial to the business and guide them in their decision making process.

 

Skills/ Qualities Needed:

Relevant qualifications are desirable. However, experience can be a good substitute where a formal qualification does not exist. A mentor must demonstrate competency in his/her chosen area of expertise.
Some awareness of the issues experienced by the unemployed is expected. Mentors should have good interpersonal and motivational skills, demonstrate patience and empathy towards prospective client.

 

Time Required: 1-2 hours per week for 3 months.

 

Number of Volunteers Needed: 4

 

Minimum Age Requirement: 18

 

Screening: Informal Interviews

Galway City Partnership (GCP) is a coming together of local organisations to promote the development of Galway City by tackling disadvantage and combating social exclusion. Funded by the Government, Galway City Partnership is charged with delivering the Local Development Social Inclusion Programme (LDSIP) on behalf of the Department of Community, Rural & Gaeltacht Affairs under the auspices of POBAL as part of National Development Plan.
