Tasks:The
role of the volunteer is to enhance social and leisure opportunities of our
service users through friendship and community integration programmes.
Tasks will be related to identifying what the volunteer enjoys doing or
skills/talents he/she may have so that they can be shared with service users.

hours fortnightly or more if desired.
Minimum commitment of 6 months is required by volunteer.

Location of Volunteering: Various centres
throughout Galway city and county.Volunteers especially needed in the Tuam and Glennamaddy area as well as the Galway city.

West is a voluntary organization, which provides a range of high quality,
community based services to children and adults with an intellectual disability
throughout Galway City and County and strives to assist each individual to
reach their full potential
The role of the volunteer is to enhance social and leisure opportunities of our
service users through friendship and community integration prgorammes.
Activities can include going for walks, bowling, social pint, arts &
crafts, sports, or assisting in programmes which are ongoing at various
services.
All potential volunteers must complete an application form which requires the
name of two referees. A Garda Clearance form is also part of the screening
process and is attached to the application. Our HR Department looks after
obtaining both personal references and Garda Clearance.
Every effort is made to ensure the volunteer placement is enjoyable and beneficial
to both volunteer and our service users. Volunteers are supported in their role
and will become part of a network of volunteers who meet on a regular basis.
Due to the vulnerability of our service users, becoming a volunteer with
Ability West can be slow compared to other organizations due to screening and
training, however, most volunteers find that it has been worth the wait!
